Challenge
Moodle is a robust e-learning standard but introduces severe operational rigidity and administrative overhead. Educational content delivery for K-12 segments traditionally required days of manual provisioning, database configuration, and course structuring. Furthermore, handling dual business models—direct institutional B2B deployments and an indirect, high-volume reseller SaaS model via license keys (pins)—created massive friction in access management. Scalability was heavily constrained by technical debt and the need for dedicated sysadmins, driving up the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO).
Approach
I architected a decoupled middleware layer that functions as an intelligent abstraction platform, separating content creation from Moodle’s rigid core. Authors compile curricula using standard Markdown (via Google Docs workflows), which our Angular 21 frontend and automated ingestion pipeline seamlessly convert into fully structured Moodle environments in minutes, not days.
To accelerate the engineering phase and minimize R&D CAPEX, I orchestrated AI-driven development workflows (AI-Augmented Engineering) to single-handedly build the system architecture. I designed a native enrollment engine that interacts directly with the core database, supporting both direct B2B institutional setups and a self-service, tenant-managed pin distribution model—effectively turning a monolithic legacy system into a multi-tenant SaaS.
